I added a five-second delay between the AVR and TV startup steps to make sure I never end up on the wrong side of a race condition, but it's not strictly necessary. The solution was to put the AVR first in the startup sequence. Even though the Denon AVR starts up one second after the display and the display is still in the process of booting, it is still long enough for the TV to decide that there is no signal on HDMI-1 and switch to Smartcast. In my case, I made the mistake of setting my startup sequence to start the Vizio TV before my Denon AVR. ![]() This behavior also seems to be happening when the TV is booting up.
